Stitching Your Soul Back Together
A Pep Talk from Grannis (Keeper of Peppermints, Stitcher of Lost Things)
Oh, child your face looks longer than my walk through the underworld. Come sit by me a moment. Your shoulders are all hunched up like you’re carrying the whole afterlife in your spine. Let’s ease that, hmm?
Ah. I see what’s bothering you.
You think you’ve failed. Or maybe you’re afraid you will. But listen here, sugarplum—ain’t nobody gets through this life or the next without stumbling and bumping a few things sideways. That’s part of the walk. The trip-ups, the detours, the muddy bits where you can’t see your own feet or find the peppermints you dropped? That’s just part of finding your way through the path.
When I was your age—well, older than you, younger than I am now—I thought courage meant never flinching when ghosts snuck up on me. But real courage is stitching your soul back together after it tears. It’s choosing to care again, even when the world tells you not to.
You hear that? Don’t make me have to repeat myself. Cause I will.
Being tired don’t make you weak. And being kind don’t make you foolish. Even if some of those meanies out there take advantage of you. And no matter what the silence tries to tell you, you are not alone.
You’ve got more grit and go-get-’em in you than you know. And if the thread holding you together starts to fray? That’s alright. That’s why folks like me carry sewing needles.
So, darling, take a breath. A big deep one if you can. Straighten your spine. Put your heart back in your hands. And when you're ready?
We can keep walking together.
Now, want a peppermint before we get movin’? I got a few in my pocket, so long as you don’t mind a bit of of lint. Adds flavor if you ask me.
With Love,
Grannis
